One very deserving mother.
Nominee: Brenda J.
My mother, Brenda is one of the most hardworking, strongest women I have ever known but she never seems to get many breaks in life. In 1984, she lost my brother Jamin, who was only 3. In the early 90’s, she became a single mother to 4 girls and worked very hard to provide for us while still trying her best to be there for us, whether it be at our school plays or if we just needed her for emotional support. In 2004, we lost my sister Katie, who was 16. She briefly started at college a few years ago to obtain a degree in childhood development to try to get a better job, but had to stop when my older sister was high-risk pregnant with twins to help her out. Since then, she hasn’t gone back to school and she’s been working extremely hard at one dead end job after another. Many times she struggles with bills. She NEVER goes on vacation. She barely even calls out sick - she will work through her illness because she needs the money. She never buys herself nice things. Her car is very old and needs quite a bit of work on it (really, she just needs a new car). She has never asked anyone for anything. I would love to see my mom receive this raise so she can maybe go back to school or buy a new car or even just take a nice vacation for herself. After all she’s been through in her life, she deserves it more than anyone I know.
