America Deserves A Raise

Congratulations to our Grand
Prize and Runner-Up stories.

Some Glory for Corey

Nominee: Corey Lynn B.

Corey is my daughter, who just graduated from college in May.  She spent the last 4 years studying hard,  working at the same time to be able to earn her degree as an elementary teacher.  She graduated with 23 more credits than were required, and a grade point average of 3.95 earning her that degree and the honor of graduating in the top of her class.  We are by no means a family of money,  therefore most of her college was paid for with student loans.  Those loans begin coming due in November of this year and total aproxamately $42,000.00.  I’m sure I don’t have to tell anyone how bad the economy is right now, but for teachers at least here in Missouri,  the one’s that are working are grateful and those that are not are very worried.  Missouri has cut large amounts of funding for all it’s schools in 2010 and will continue to do so to balance it’s budget. Corey has taken a job that like so many others offer only part time and you have to have 2 or 3 to pay the bills. At minimum wage she makes about $200.00 a week and is happy to have it. She is still young enough that she believes the world to be a fair place. I know how hard it will be for her to work enough hours at minimum wage to pay those student loan payments in November, and intend to help all that I can. However, I am unemployed as of May of 2009 and can’t find a job myself to pay current bills.  If it was not for her my life would not have been worth a dime. And for her I would walk through FIRE. I was unable to buy a grad present or throw a party. I can’t even help get her car fixed so she is driving mine.  If ever there was someone Deserving of a raise and praise right now it is her.  I LOVE HER AND KNOW NO ONE ELSE AS WORTHY TO GET THIS RAISE.  It may be her only way to pay for what she has coming her way.
