A Friend, a Mentor, and a Spiritual Guide for All
Nominee: Alejandro V.
Father Alex has been a Priest for 10 years, but he is more than a priest for everybody that knows him. He is a friend, a mentor, and a spiritual guide for all of us, especially for the students. Going to college is a very big step in a student’s life. When students go to college, they expect to learn new things about their careers as well as about themselves. They expect to acquire the tools to make them successful in their professional lives. Having a career is not the only goal in life, it is also necessary to be close to God and to make true friendships and surround yourself with good people. That is exactly what Fr. Alex does by teaching us and guiding us by his example. His personality is what makes him different from other Clergy members. He has such enthusiasm, charisma, kindness, and generosity that makes us want to get involved in whatever activities he has planned. It could be a class, it could be mass, it could be a prayer session, it could be a spiritual retreat, or even tailgating. It doesn’t matter; he makes us want to participate. It is clear to everyone that knows him that he is the difference at this church. There are not only students who rip the benefits from Father Alex; it is anyone and everyone who attends this church. I am a teacher, and since I started attending this church, Father Alex has made a difference in my life. He has made me be a better teacher and a better person. He motivates me to make a difference in my students’ lives.
Father Alex always finds a way to be close to the students, he gives them advice, he guides them, and he accompanies them during their college years. Fr. Alex believes in the importance of family, and of course he believes that the Church is your family too! One of the best things a family can do is sit and take time out of their busy lives and share a meal together. That is how the weekly Dinner Nights started. Every Tuesday and Thursday, Fr. Alex, with the help of donations from people at the church, prepares a dinner for the students. It gives you time to share a good meal, to laugh, and to know that you have people that care about you enough to have you share a meal with them. He started this tradition a few years ago and they have grown to over 100 meals a week that he personally serves.
We are lucky because we have someone who cares about our spiritual wellbeing as well as the future of tomorrow’s leaders.
