America Deserves A Raise

Congratulations to our Grand
Prize and Runner-Up stories.

My Daughter Does It All And Then Some

Nominee: Jennifer T.

When my grand-daughter turned three months old, her mother made the hard decision to move from Tennessee back to Alabama and moved in with me.  My health has gotten to the point where I am still able to live on my own but could use help with the bigger things around the house and she is always there for me no matter what I ask her for, heavy lifting, taking out the trash, changing light bulbs, installing anything around the house that she can, running errands, taking me to and from doctor’s appointments if I am having a bad day and just can’t drive myself.

She also has become a single parent of a beautiful 13 month old little girl at the age of 35.  Her daughter comes with her own set of problems.  When she was much younger, she was allergic to cats and dogs and surgical tape and intolerant of milk formula, powdered formula, and anything with grape or apple in it.  Since then, she has outgrown those intolerances but has developed new ones along with Psychological Pica and she also grinds her teeth when stressed.  My daughter takes every bit of this in stride.  She never loses her temper with her daughter and is always there with hugs and kisses and snuggles and whatever that little girl needs, her mother makes sure she has it.

To top it all off, she also works five nights a week as a bartender at a local bar.  She does works nights so she is at least home part of the day when her daughter is awake and wants to play and also try to get everything else done too.  It doesn’t matter what is going on with her job, if her boss calls and says they need her, she is right there.  She has always taken extra shifts, worked for anyone that needs it, and has learned how to do everything in the bar from bar-tending to running the karaoke booth.  She has also since taken over writing the daily copy for the bar’s website.

If anyone deserves a raise, it’s my daughter for everything she does.
