America Deserves A Raise

Congratulations to our Grand
Prize and Runner-Up stories.

The Greatest Mother

Nominee: Patricia P.

I think my mother deserves a raise because she does everything for everyone and gets little in return.

My mother has been working to support a family since she was 14 years old. She lived and worked through the Depression years and has not stopped working.

My mother is the mother of five children, 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

My mother no longer holds down a 9-5 job but now works from the time she awakens early in the morning until the time she goes back to bed late in the evening. She no longer works for meager money but works now for nothing.

My mother is never selfish and is always available to help out a member of her family, a neighbor, a stranger. My mother wears the hat of teacher, counselor, gardner, maintenence, mechanic ,whatever needs to be done she will do it if possible.

My mother homeschools a grandchild with a seizure disorder, babysits her great grandchildren whenever called upon to do so, talks with peope on the phone at whatever time they call to share advise, listen to their problems, offer help etc. . My mother grows a garden in the Summer to harvest, can freeze food for the winter to share with others.

My mother will never let anyone leave her home hungry or empty handed. My mother will make sure that as you leave her home she says a prayer with you and waves good bye as you leave the driveway so you know someone cares.

My mother recently lost my dad whom she was married to for over 50 years. My mother stayed with my dad though out his hospitalization and illness until his death. She never once complained and offered encouragement to others during this time even though she herself was in pain.

My mother has never been a rich woman and would not want to be. I just think she deserves a raise to ease the struggles she is now facing after my dads passing away.
