Nominee: Brenda H.
Brenda was laid off from her job in February 2009 & has not yet been able to find a new job. She also suffers from fibromyalgia & arthritis which often leaves her walking with a cane. These issues do not get in the way of her big heart & generous nature, though, & this makes her an inspiration to others around her. Although she’s not working, she uses her talent with thread to make regular & significant contributions to people in the most impoverished areas of Metro Detroit. Brenda has knitted & crocheted 315 hats & 124 scarves which have been distributed to the needy via homeless shelters & through direct donations to the needy/homeless.
I have seen the positive impact of her donations through the smiles on the faces of those who receive a warm, handmade hat to wear during the bitter Michigan winter. Brenda’s unselfish nature & dedication to overcoming obstacles in order to help others makes her more than deserving of a raise.
