A Raise Long Overdue
Nominee: Michele S.
Michele began working for her employer in 2005 . She hit the ground running in the quest of becoming a stellar employee by slashing past data entry records and setting new standards for her company. It wasn’t long before her supervisors realized that she wasn’t just “another employee”. Over the next few years she continued working feverously bettering her skills and her working relationships. However, while her job was going well, things in her personal life took a turn for the worse. Like so many others, Michele’s family fell on hard times. Although Michele and her husband have always worked, as their expenses continued to grow, unfortunately their pay didn’t. Despite mounting bills, the lack of being to afford basic necessities, and having to stay with friends, Michele maintained an optimistic attitude believing that somehow things would change for the better, and she was right, sort of. One morning Michele was summoned to her supervisor’s office. As she took the dreaded walk down the hallway, many thoughts ran through her head. “Am I being laid off?” “What is my family going to do now?” “We’re already living off of strained resources.” Much to her surprise, she wasn’t being laid off. In fact what happened was the exact opposite. She was told that her work for the company had not gone unnoticed and that she was being promoted to a higher position with more responsibilities and of course more pay. She couldn’t believe what she had heard. It seemed that her many prayers had been answered. She started in that higher position a few days later and hit the ground running just as she had done before. She also anxiously awaited the raise to reflect on her paychecks. But weeks went by. No raise. Months came and went. Still, no raise. A little over a year and a half later, Michele was finally told that they would not be able to provide her with a raise. At present date, Michele is still working hard and doing double the work of her fellow employees for the same pay. Perhaps the most inspirational piece of her story is the fact that despite that great “raise” disappointment, and the financial problems her family’s still facing, Michele has continued to be the positive, optimistic, and hopeful person she’s always been. At her job and in her personal life she helps others and over extends herself whenever she’s needed. She just knows that something “good” will happen soon. This is why I am nominating my sister Michele Smith for the 40,000 dollar raise. I know that this is just what Michele and her family need to land them back on their feet. I am truly praying that this contest will be her “good” thing. If you’ve read this story, and have been inspired by it in any way, please help me support my sister by voting for it and giving her a raise that’s truly long overdue.
