Endless Love

Nominee: sean g.

Sean Garvin is my son, and I think the world of him.  In May of 2009 his longtime girlfriend, Robin, was diagnosed with cervical cancer.  She had no health insurance, had a very rough time of it and Sean was her knight in shining armor.  She was hospitalized from May 24th to July 9th and Sean never left her side for one minute.  He was with her day and night making sure when she was not able to, he would become her voice.  He actually moved into her hospital room and didn’t leave until she was released.  After her release she came to stay with us because her own family was unwilling to care for her. Needless to say it was the toughest summer any of us had ever experienced.  Even after her release from the hospital he never left her side.  She had a tumor in her pelvic area that became so large it fractured her pelvis.  He cared for her with such love anf tenderness that it truly touched my heart.  Over the summer he took care of her day and night tending to her every need.  He took her to chemo, doctor’s appointments, tests and every place else she had to go.  Robin’s birthday was September 16th so I asked her what she wanted.  She told me she wanted to marry my son.  So there I was with about two weeks notice and I had to get a wedding together.  On September 16th Sean and Robin married in a lovely little chapel.  It was beautiful.  More important Robin was beautiful.  On November 8th we had to rush Robin to the E R due to some frightening new symptoms.  Unfortunately we found out that her cancer had spread to her bones and brain.  That gave us an answer as to why she was suffering with debilitating headaches that would leave her in a ball of tears.  Robin finally had to be induced into a chemical coma because the pain was too tremendous.  She passed away on November 22, 2009.  We loved her very much.  I had never seen a love between two people like their love.  It was remarkable. To give of oneself so fully and completely like Sean gave to Robin was something I had never seen in my life before.  My son is my hero because of the way he loved and later cared for Robin in every way.  I knew he was already a good person but I just admire him so much for never leaving his wife for a nano second.  It’s been almost 7 months since her passing and it’s still difficult.  Three days ago we spread her ashes as she had wished, with love, compassion, celebration, joy and many many memories.  Robin we will never forget you.
