America Deserves A Raise

Last January, Shawn and I found out we were expecting our first child.  As the pregnancy progressed, we dealt with the numerous decisions we faced. One was daycare for our child.  As the time came for our baby girl to arrive, we decided to try and see if Shawn could stay at home with her.  He was working part-time during the pregnancy, and his whole paycheck would be used simply to cover the cost of daycare.  So, as my maternity leave came to an end, Shawn gave up his job and became truly the best stay-at-home dad ever.  Our daughter has the opportunity to learn and explore her world and spend time with her dad.  I think it’s truly the best gift for both him and her.  While working, Shawn was saving up to buy a new vehicle, as we desperately needed one.  Now that we only have one income, he’s had to give up the dream of having a vehicle anytime soon.  We live with one car, and Shawn and baby girl are at home most of the day by themselves.  Now that it’s summer, it’s too hot to take her out for walks during the day so they spend most of their time in the house.  We all give up something to become parents, and we get so much in return.  I think Shawn deserves a raise.  There are not too many stay-at-home dads in the world.  Not only does he take great care of our daughter, but provides the emotional support I need as well.  I have post-partum depression, and this makes our lives just a little bit more difficult in the end.  He has been a great support for me, and an excellent dad for our daughter.
