America Deserves A Raise

Congratulations to our Grand
Prize and Runner-Up stories.

I'd Love to Share my Mom with the World!

Nominee: Barbara M.

Farming is truely one of the most difficult jobs in the world to accomplish.  It is round the clock work.  For over 30 years my mom has risen to the occasion every morning at 4:00 a.m. to do the morning milking chores and I have never heard her complain.  Yes, think of a job where you are getting paid what a farmer’s wage was 20 years ago.  Wow, no raises for 20 years at a job you love to do!  She gives her heart out to everyone and everything and has given up countless things in life to get her family through some of the most difficult financial times.

She never says no to babysitting her five grandchildren for free (ages 3 to 8) one day a week to help save money at the daycare for her children.  She also finds time to volunteer to help with church activities.

In addition she has another job working at an emboridery and screen printing shop to make ends meet.
She works from 10 to 20 hours a week depending on the workload.  Her work is the work of perfectionist and she always wants to make sure every customer is completely satisfied.

She always makes it back to the farm for the evening milking chores.  She’s dad’s right hand man on the farm and is there whenever dad needs her on the farm.  On many occasions,  after the cows are tucked in for the night, she goes back to her embroidery job in the late evening and will work until midnight or later to get a rush order one.  There’s never enough hours in a day.

She’s activitely involved in all her children and grand childrens lives - from watching them play baseball and softball to attending every bithday party.  And of course will always bake a birthday cake to add that special touch.  She as a mom that never says no to us - she’ll been over backwards to help anyone.

Her vacations are few and far between and typically if they do get a chance to get away, it’s only for a day or two.  No paid holidays or vacations!

And when the sun shine and there’s hay to make, she’s right there as well.  Honestly, I do not know how she just keeps going and going - she’s like the engergizer bunny.  Everyone has got to believe, there’s no way that she is in it for the money - to her its all about family.  A job that rarely gives you a pay raise and has no paid sick, holiday or vacation.  She deserves the biggest raise ever and I believe there’s no way we will ever be able to pay her what she truely deserves.
