America Deserves A Raise

We’ve awarded the raise of a lifetime — $40,000.

Thank you for sharing more than 5,000 stories with us about Americans who really deserve a raise. While we can’t give raises to all of them, we’ve been glad to be able to share your touching, inspiring stories with the many visitors to this site.

We compiled the top 100 stories based on the ratings of visitors to this site. Each of the 100 people nominated in those 100 stories and the people who nominated them received a $50 Visa® Gift Card as a finalist prize.

A panel of judges selected the two winning stories from those top 100 stories. The top story won a $40,000 raise for the nominee and a $40,000 raise for the nominator. The nominator and nominee of the runner-up story each received a $5,000 bonus.

Advance America is donating $50,000 to job-related charities.

Along with giving a raise to a deserving worker in America, Advance America wants to help others get the training and education they need to join the workforce or update their skills. At the beginning of the America Deserves A Raise contest, Advance America pledged to donate $1 to charities involved in job training and education every time a visitor to the site rated one of the stories (up to $50,000).

It took less than a month for visitors to AmericaDeservesARaise.com to raise $50,000 for United Way of the Piedmont and Spartanburg Soup Kitchen. Thanks for all your votes. Read More about the charities.
